DESN 2989 Graphic & Communication Media B, Brief 1 Marks & Spencer -
Brief - ‘to design a range of gift items for Marks & Spencer and create an identity for a pop up shop, using reference from the archive’
Marks & Spencer Specially Selected:
Simplistic designs with only the key information designed on the packaging. This is what the purchaser sees; they need quick, no fuss information. The gifts can then be placed in a gift bag or basket which the receiver of the gift sees, which is designed to make the gifts feel special. Range is intended to suggest as if M&S have made the choice for the target customer, as the intention is to make the choice of gift quick and easy. There is a consistent colour scheme with the chocolates and the cheeses, which are grouped with one wine. This colour matching will provoke the customer to assume these products go together.
Pop-up Shop:
Identity for a shop where the range will be sold, and is as such as the brief states it must ‘produce the customer to reappraise their view of M&S’. The identity for the shop highlights the exclusivity of the gift range, as it will only be open at a specific time of day, designed to make the customer feel as if they will miss out if they don’t purchase within the given times of day. The M&S values will be portrayed using the the various lines of copy, which also point out my range of gifts. The pop-up shop will display all of my range, visible to the customer as the idea is to make the purchase as quick and as stress free as possible. The ‘3 for the price of 2 on all chocolates and cheeses’ is designed to sell all the products together as a gift, which the customer can take away easily in a gift bag or gift basket.
